We are conducting a research study to investigate a potential new medication for treating irritability in teenagers ages 13-17 with autism spectrum disorder.
No Cost to Participate: There are no costs or insurance requirements to join the study.
Compensation: You and your child will receive $125 each (total $250) per visit.
Transportation: We offer free transportation or can reimburse up to $200 per visit for your travel expenses.
Study Medication (Caplyta/Lumateperone): This medication is FDA-approved for adults and is being studied for use in children with autism spectrum disorder. Research suggests it may reduce aggression in autism with potentially fewer side effects than current mood stabilizers.
Currently, this study is open to patients who meet the following criteria:
Male or female, ages 13 to 17
Diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
No other major medical or mental health conditions
Able to pass a drug test
Have a parent or guardian who can accompany the patient to all study visits
Duration: The study involves up to 9 visits over approximately 2 months.
Visit Schedule:
Screening: 1 visit, consisting of a physical exam, psychological assessment, and an explanation of all study activities with the study doctor
Baseline: 1 visit (1 day)
Treatment: 6 weekly visits (about 6 weeks)
Follow-up: 1 visit (about 1 week)
Compensation:
Up to $4,050 if you arrange your own transportation.
Up to $2,250 if we provide transportation.
Meals: Meals (up to $75) will be provided for you and your child at screening and longer study visits.
